1940 U.S. Census

There was some excitement on the Internet this week about the release of the 1940 United Status Census to the general public. I wasn't really aware of how this worked, but apparently every ten years, the Census from 72 years prior is released. Check it out here... http://1940census.archives.gov/

Since our parents we born in the 40's, we can't yet see them on the list (we have to wait until 2022 to see that!), but Dad was was able to find both his dad's and mom's family in the archives.

Click on these photos for a bigger view... even then you'll need to zoom in to really see anything. The details in the list are pretty cool. You can see everyone's age at the time of the census, the level of school completed, occupations, etc. All of the column descriptions are at the top of the page...

Here's 1016 Arctic Street in Antigo, Wisconsin. Home of Elmer and Anna Strandberg (my great grandparents). Notice Elmer's country of birth... Sweden. You don't have to go back to far to find the first generations of Strandberg's in the U.S... only 4 generations ago we started as the Johnson's in Sweden!...
